Choosing a GP
Finding a GP with whom you feel comfortable is a very personal decision. There are many different things to consider when choosing your own GP and/or general practice.
- Would you prefer a GP of a particular gender, age, culture and/or spoken language?
- Are you looking for a GP with special skills or interest in a particular field of medicine?
- Do you want the practice to be close to home or work?
- Would you prefer a small or larger practice?
- Do you want the practice to be close to other services e.g., bank, post office, other medical services, transport?
- Do you need car parking at the practice? Is this available?
- Does the practice's opening hours meet your needs?
- Do you understand the GP/practice billing arrangements?
It is often a good idea to ask friends and family members for recommendations. GPs are also listed in the Yellow Pages.
The Capricornia Division of General Practice has developed an online database of local health care providers and services. The main contact information within this Health Services Directory is accessible by the general public.
